What Makes a TV an Outdoor TV

Brightness: full sun versus partial shade

This is the first thing to settle, because it decides which models even qualify. Outdoor TVs are sold in shade ratings. A full-sun set needs very high brightness, often well past 1,000 nits, to stay readable with the sun on the screen. A partial-shade or full-shade model is dimmer and cheaper, and is the right choice under a covered lanai, a pergola or a deep overhang.
