Can I put a mini fridge in my garage?

Only if it is rated for it. A standard compact refrigerator is designed for indoor room temperatures and can fail to hold temperature, or run constantly, in an unconditioned garage in Florida or Georgia. Look for a garage-ready model rated for a wider ambient temperature range.

How much electricity does a mini fridge use?

Far less than a full-size refrigerator, typically somewhere between 200 and 350 kWh a year depending on size, efficiency and how warm the room is. Compare the yellow EnergyGuide label on the models you are considering rather than assuming smaller always means cheaper to run.

Can I reverse the door on a compact refrigerator?

Most compact refrigerators have reversible doors, which lets you switch the hinge to the other side so the door opens away from a wall or desk. It is usually a straightforward job with a screwdriver, but confirm the feature on the specific model before you buy if the direction matters.

How long should I wait to plug in a mini fridge after moving it?

If it traveled upright, a couple of hours is plenty. If it was laid on its side, leave it standing upright for at least four hours, and ideally overnight, before plugging it in, so the compressor oil drains back where it belongs. Skipping this is a common way to damage a new fridge.

Is a mini fridge quiet enough for a bedroom?

It depends on the type. Compressor models cool well but cycle on and off with an audible hum. Thermoelectric models are close to silent but cool less and are sensitive to a warm room. For a bedroom, check the decibel rating if the manufacturer publishes one, and listen to a running unit in the showroom if you can.

What is the difference between a mini fridge and a beverage cooler?

A mini fridge is a general-purpose small refrigerator with shelves and usually a crisper, and it runs cold enough for food. A beverage cooler is built specifically for cans and bottles, often with a glass door and racks, and typically holds a slightly warmer temperature suited to drinks rather than perishables.

Compact Refrigerators & Mini Fridges

Compact Refrigerators and Mini Fridges

A mini fridge earns its space when the main kitchen is too far away: a dorm room, a home office, a garage workshop, a bar cart or a bedroom. BrandsMart USA carries compact refrigerators from roughly 1.5 to 5 cubic feet, with and without freezers.

Sizes and layouts vary more than people expect at this end of the market, so it pays to compare in person. Visit a showroom in Florida or Georgia and open a few doors before you decide.

Why Buy Your Mini Fridge From BrandsMart USA

Huge showrooms in Florida and Georgia. Compact fridges are hard to judge from a spec sheet. Find your nearest store and see the shelf layouts for yourself.
Friendly, expert help in the showroom. Our appliance team works with these models every day and will happily walk you through matching cubic feet, noise and shelf layout to the room it is going in. No pressure and no jargon: tell them your space and your budget, and they will help you shortlist.
Financing is one of the better reasons to buy here. There is more than one way to spread the cost, and they work differently. The BrandsMart USA credit card carries 0% promotional financing on qualifying purchases, with the length of the term depending on the category and the amount. Katapult lease-to-own needs no credit at all, and you can check your buying power without affecting your credit score. Klarna splits a purchase into interest-free installments with a decision in seconds. Because those are three separate programs rather than one, a route that is not a fit for you does not have to be the end of it.
A clear return policy. Our return and refund policy covers exchanges and refunds, with return windows that vary by product type. Keep the original packaging until you are sure it is a keeper.
Real selection at the small end. Avanti, Premium Levella, Thermador and more. Browse the full brand lineup.
Pickup or delivery. Most compact models fit in a car, but delivery is available if you would rather not wrestle it.
Competitive pricing. Our 110% low price guarantee covers you if you find the same model advertised for less.

What size mini fridge is best for a dorm room?

Most students do well with 1.7 to 3.2 cubic feet, which holds drinks, snacks and a few meals without dominating the room. Check your school's housing rules first, because many set a maximum cubic footage and some require an Energy Star model or limit how many appliances share an outlet.

Do compact refrigerators have freezers?

Some do and some don't. Many have a small freezer box inside the main compartment, which is fine for ice and a frozen meal or two but will need manual defrosting. Fewer models have a genuinely separate freezer with its own door, and those are worth seeking out if you plan to store frozen food.

What should I look for when buying a mini fridge?

Start with where it is going, because that decides everything else: measure the spot, allow an inch or two at the back and sides so the compressor can shed heat, and check whether the door reverses so it opens away from a wall or a desk. Then size it, roughly 1.5 to 2.5 cubic feet for a desk, bedroom or dorm and 3 to 4.5 cubic feet for a break room or a small apartment kitchen, and decide whether you need a freezer with its own door or just a box for ice trays. Last, weigh noise and shelving: compressor models cool properly but hum, thermoelectric models are near-silent but weak in a warm room, and adjustable glass shelves with a real crisper are far more useful day to day than a fixed wire rack. If you find yourself shopping above five cubic feet, price a full-size top-freezer model instead, because it costs little more and holds several times as much.

Do mini fridges have ice makers?

Very few do. Most compact refrigerators either have no freezer at all or a small freezer box inside the main compartment, which is fine for an ice tray and a couple of frozen meals but frosts up and needs defrosting by hand. A handful of larger compact models, generally from around 3.5 cubic feet up, include a small automatic ice maker, so check that specific spec rather than assuming. If ice is really what you are after, a countertop ice maker sits alongside the fridge and makes far more than any mini fridge can.

Where can I see mini fridges in person near me?

BrandsMart USA has showrooms across Florida and Georgia, and compact refrigerators are worth seeing in person because shelf layout and interior height vary a lot between models that share the same cubic-foot rating. Find your nearest showroom and check the door swing and shelf spacing before you buy.

What financing options are available on mini fridges?

All of ours apply here, though at this price point the shorter routes are usually the practical ones. Klarna splits a purchase into interest-free installments with a decision in seconds, and Katapult is lease-to-own with no credit needed, so you can check your buying power without affecting your credit score. The BrandsMart USA credit card also carries 0% promotional financing on qualifying purchases, which matters more if the mini fridge is part of a larger order. See the financing page for current terms.

Where a Compact Refrigerator Makes Sense

Dorm rooms and student housing. Check your school's cubic-foot and amperage limits before you buy. Many cap what you can bring.
Home offices and break rooms. A can-and-lunch fridge that keeps people out of the main kitchen all afternoon.
Bedrooms and studio apartments. Look hard at the noise rating here; a compressor you can hear at 2am is the most common regret.
Bars, game rooms and entertainment spaces. Beverage-first layouts with can racks and glass doors. If drinks are the whole job, compare wine and beverage coolers too.
Garages, workshops and RVs. Confirm the model is rated for the temperature swings. A standard compact fridge struggles in an unconditioned Florida garage.
Overflow for a full house. A second fridge for holidays and bulk shopping. If you mostly need frozen space, a chest or upright freezer stores far more per dollar.

1. Measure the space, then subtract for the door

Compact fridges need clearance at the back and sides for the compressor to shed heat, usually an inch or two. Check which way the door swings and whether it can be reversed. Most can, and that one detail decides whether the fridge works under a desk or in a corner.

2. Decide whether you actually need a freezer

A separate freezer compartment with its own door holds a proper amount of frozen food. A small in-fridge freezer box is really only good for ice trays and a couple of frozen meals, and it will frost up. If you just need cold drinks and lunches, skipping the freezer buys you more usable fridge space at the same price.

3. Match capacity to the job

Around 1.5 to 2.5 cubic feet suits a desk, a bedroom or a dorm. Three to 4.5 cubic feet handles a break room or a small apartment kitchen. Anything above five cubic feet is usually better served by a full top-freezer refrigerator, which costs little more and holds far more.

4. Pay attention to noise

Compact compressors cycle more often than full-size ones, and in a quiet bedroom that is very noticeable. Thermoelectric models run near-silent but cool less aggressively and struggle in warm rooms. Compressor models cool properly but hum. Pick based on which room it is going in.

5. Check energy use and shelving

Efficiency matters less in absolute dollars at this size, but a fridge running 24/7 in a warm garage still adds up, so compare the EnergyGuide labels. Then look at the shelves: glass shelves are easier to clean than wire, adjustable ones let you stand a bottle upright, and a real crisper drawer keeps produce from drying out.

A mini fridge or a full-size top-freezer?

Buy the mini fridge when the room is the reason. A dorm room, a bedroom, a home office, a bar or a workshop needs drinks and lunches within arm's reach, and 1.5 to 5 cubic feet under a desk or on a counter does that without rearranging the space. It is also the only option where a full-size cabinet physically will not fit, or where campus housing rules cap the cubic footage you are allowed to bring.

Once you find yourself shopping above five cubic feet, stop and price a full-size unit instead. A full-size refrigerator in the 10 to 14 cubic foot range holds several times as much, gives you a freezer with its own door and a real crisper, and uses less electricity per cubic foot than a compact does. The honest catch is the footprint and the delivery: plan on 24 to 30 inches of floor width, around 60 inches of height and a clear route in, so it only works if the room can take it.

A mini fridge or a beverage cooler?

Buy the mini fridge if anything going inside is food. It holds a food-safe temperature below 40 degrees Fahrenheit and has proper shelves, usually with a crisper, so leftovers, milk, lunches and medication are all fine. It is the safer default whenever more than one person uses it and you cannot control what ends up in there.

Buy a beverage cooler only if drinks really are the whole job. Can racks and bottle shelving hold far more in the same footprint, and a glass front lets you see what is left without opening anything. The trade-off is temperature: most run a little warmer, often around 38 to 41 degrees, which is fine for cans and bottles and wrong for raw ingredients. For a bar or games room where seeing the stock is the point, a small glass-door display refrigerator is worth comparing as well.

Opening the doors and pulling out the drawers tells you more than any spec sheet, and every mini fridge here can be seen in person. We have eleven showrooms across South Florida and metro Atlanta.

Florida. Miami, Dadeland and South Dade in the Miami area, Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise, Outlet Center in Lauderhill, Deerfield Beach, Dania Pointe in Dania Beach, and West Palm Beach.
Georgia. North Atlanta, South Atlanta in Stockbridge, and Kennesaw.

Each store page has the address, phone number and current showroom hours. You can also find the store nearest you or order online and collect in store.

Buy it whichever way is easiest. Most mini fridges fit in a car, so you can order online and pick it up in store, have it delivered, or walk into one of our showrooms across Florida and Georgia and take one home the same day. Financing is available on qualifying purchases, including a lease-to-own route that needs no credit. Check the shelf layout and listen to one running before you decide, particularly for a bedroom.
