Watch out ... it's a RIPOFF.

By Angel of Mercy

Comments about Roku 3 Streaming Player:

Buyer BEWARE!!! I have 3 players(stick;Roku 2; Roku 3). Never had problem with products without voice search. With voice search .. TERRIBLE! Voice search works maybe 20% of the time ... MAYBE. Worst part is player and remote for Roku3 work for a short time and then your screwed. Yes, I read all the support info and kept pairing the remote ... over and over. I did all the gymnastics. Remove and replace the batteries. Replace with new batteries. Press the button. Press A & B buttons. Press all 3 buttons. Don't use it for a couple of hours and keep powercycling until pairing option shows up on screen ... Etc. Finally had to call support. Ends up being some guy in India making me press all the buttons and powercycling ... Again. You can tell he is reading from a script. Finally he tells me I need a new remote. I've worked in tech field over 15 years. This product is not rocket science ... neither is the support. Since it was so soon I got it free. That lasted a couple months and it all started all over again. What a useless waste of time ... I have lost days of my life I can't get back. And why? Because they put out a product they must have known was LOUSY during test trials but sold it anyway. Funny thing, Roku2 remote is different because no voice feature. Never had a problem with Roku2. These new Rokus... same remote as Roku3 ... voice feature. All this NONSENSE GARBAGE starts at the top ... CEO. He is Getting richer selling novelty feature ... Voice search. Save yourselves a lot of time and grief ... BUY SOMETHING ELSE THAT actually WORKS. I should have saved my money and not bought unit with voice search remote. Too late. Plus, I can't see this company actually doing right by a customer. I will say one thing, the Roku3 Piece of TRASH is not designed aerodynamically ... but it flew across the room surprisingly well. Don't say I didn't try to help you by warning you.

Comments about Roku 3 Streaming Player:

Seems to freeze up, my smart TV box doesn't. Don't like the placement of "OK" button. Would rather have it in the center of direction buttons

Roku rocks

By Vbgernj

from Cherry Hill, NJ, United States

Comments about Roku 3 Streaming Player:

My first brush with Roku happened after the purchase of a TV made by Sharp. This one has the Roku device integrated. I immediately loved all about it. This is streaming like it's meant to be. The remote has few buttons and is easy to use. My wife and I have since purchased 2 more Roku units for the other TV's in our house. They all perform great. Unlike some other reviewers, I did not have any issues with the remote controls eating batteries like there is no tomorrow.

The worst Remote Control device ever used

By neilK

from Miami, Fl

Comments about Roku 3 Streaming Player:

The worst remote control device I have ever used, including going back into the 1960's. Not very happy with the cost of this device, and I average hitting the keys on the remote 10 - 15 times before it does anything. This is day one, with brand new batteries.

Comments about Roku 3 Streaming Player:

I like it much better than cable or satellite. I had internet but not many tv options. What I like is it makes it is easy to use my antenna the and pay tv to get all that I need. It is practical. I would like a little more al carte though.

As compared to Apple TV

By CocoStella

from Atlanta, GA, United States

Comments about Roku 3 Streaming Player:

I really do like the ability to plug in headphones but other than that, I should have spent the extra money to get the latest generation apple TV. not as user friendly as the apple product and going through menu a little more complicated...It works fine but...

Worst. Remote. Ever.

By aztecfilms

from Los Angeles, CA, United States

Comments about Roku 3 Streaming Player:

Honest review: The roku itself is great, no real complaints when it comes to the hockey puck. HOWEVER, whoever designed this remote clearly had no intention of using it themselves and/or just hates people in general. For starters, it eats batteries like crazy. You will either have to purchase rechargeable batteries or keep shelling out for new ones often. So much so that you'll basically end up paying more far more for batteries than whatever you pay for the roku itself. From the research I've done this is a widespread problem with many owners and NOTHING has been done by Roku the company to alleviate this problem. The gyroscope/accelerometer included is great for games, but will use up energy even at the slightest tilt. So if you fall asleep with the remote on your bed, yeah kiss that pair of batteries goodbye. Then there's the headphone jack. Great idea, not gonna lie it is quite useful. However, leaving the headphones plugged in also eats up battery life tremendously. So again, fall asleep or forget to unplug the headphones...and BAM yet another pair of batteries gone. Suddenly you get the drift as to how insanely awful and expensive this remote can be. Lastly, nothing to do with batteries, but the four Quick Access buttons. Another great idea. Again, very handy. However, one of them is for the now-defunct Rdio music service. So am I able to reprogram this button for quick access to another roku channel?? NERP! Why would anyone think that far ahead when designing this? That's just crazy talk! In conclusion, the remote has a ton of features that were likely well-intended, but extremely poorly thought-out and poorly designed and implemented. If there's such a thing as a smart remote, this would be the opposite of it. It is truly wondrous what an enormously epic fail this was. Seriously, bravo to the designers for making something so god-awful it will live in infamy forever. I can just see it now, Me: "Hey man, I know you got fired from your job, dumped by your girl, hit by a car, and are now blind and paralyzed...but at least you don't have to deal with a Roku remote." Friend: "True story. Thanks, bruh for cheering me up!"
