Comments about Yamaha 630 Watt 7.2 Channel Audio/Video Receiver:

So setup went fairly smooth until I wanted to test zone 2 and the typical issue on all 2 zone receivers comes up of no out put from digital sources (hdmi or optical) simple solution run analog right? Only 2 analog inputs in this unit limits sources and many devices like Apple TV has no analog (RCA) outs so using Apple TV for audio in zone 2 is not happening. It's my understanding that wireless sources like iphone or your computer will play in zone 2 but I haven't quite figured that out but I usually don't have time to focus on the issue with kids and stuff.

The rear surround speakers automatically cut off all signal and that power is sent to zone 2 when its in use. If I had known this I may have chosen onkyo. The real hands in decision behind this brand versus onkyo was the hands on feel of this unit. Metal box not plastic like onkyo. Knobs felt so much better and tighter. And to me that says allot about the unit as a whole.

It does allow 2 seperate outputs for 2 subwoofers which adds a bit more dimension if you use 2 different size subwoofers. Movies are much punchier. The overall balance from the auto balance in speaker setup was close but I tweaked it to push volume to rear and more bass overall. Easy to do all this they the fairly simple on screen me yes projected to the TV. No more code breaking the abbreviations on the tiny led screen on the receiver.

The AirPlay feature is pretty awsome. No matter what is playing someone can use any mobile device with air play like an iPhone and send the video or music to the receiver whic interrupts the current output automatically and plays the AirPlay signal with no fiddling.

Once I get wireless signals to play in zone 2 I'll be reasonably happy with the purchase.

Most important is that movies sound awsome compared to my older Denon.
