Comments about Yamaha 630 Watt 7.2 Channel Audio/Video Receiver:

If you read my earlier review I wrote that this unit was very cool except that I hadn't yet worked out setting up Zone 2. I figured it out. Yamaha explained that I needed to provide 2 separate outputs from my cable TV receiver and 2 inputs to the receiver. I have an HDMI cable out and in to the unit for the main zone and also RCA jacks from the cable box to the AUDIO 2 input on the receiver. Now here's what's cool about this setup. I can play media from 1 source in the living room and separate media outside on the patio.
Each zone("Main" and "Zone 2") are each managed separately for the volume controls. Slide the zone switch to "Main" and select the input source and volume level, then slide the switch to "Zone 2", click the "Receiver" button to turn Zone 2 on and select the input source and your different volume level for that zone. Read the manual for speaker connections...it's a no brainer.
My old Yamaha speakers were pretty good, I thought, until I bit the bullet and ordered Polk Audio RTi-A5's for the mains, RTi-A3's for the rear surrounds and a Yamaha NS-C310 center speaker after exhausting research on the web. I didn't realize what I was missing until then. With the new movie and music program selections this unit offers the possibilities are endless. I am more satisfied now than the first review I wrote.

Comments about Yamaha 630 Watt 7.2 Channel Audio/Video Receiver:

I use the receiver mainly for movies and television, but I also listen to music. It works well for both. I had a Denon before this, and it was fine for movies and television, but lacking for music. I really like the GUI on this unit, very easy to navigate, and looks good. The only minor quibble I have is with the remote, the bottom buttons are hard for my old eyes to see. But that is a very minor problem, that does not bother me much at all. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase, and would recommend Yamaha to anyone.

Comments about Yamaha 630 Watt 7.2 Channel Audio/Video Receiver:

I bought the RX-A720 Aventage to replace a six-year-old AVR that was failing. I chose the RX-A720 because it hit the sweet spot of price, features, and quality. I was out of town on a trip when the RX-A720 was delivered, so I gave my college-aged son general instructions on replacing the AVR already in my home theater system with the RX-A720. He was able to do so flawlessly. When I got home, I ran the YPAO just to make sure that things were set up to my satisfaction, then proceeded to enjoy several hours of using and auditioning the RX-A720. I have an audiophile music setup that shares the same Quad 22L speakers, and the RX-A720 was much closer in sound quality than my old AVR. Video quality from all sources, including my Oppo BDP-93, was top-notch as well. All in all, I'm happy with my RX-A720.

Comments about Yamaha 630 Watt 7.2 Channel Audio/Video Receiver:

I purchased this unit to replace my older Yamaha surround system receiver because I recently purchased a new Samsung 60" 3D Plasma TV and my old receiver did not have HDMI input/output capabilities. When I first connected my DirecTV box directly to the TV the picture was great, but after reading the owner's manual and passing the signal through the receiver I could not believe my eyes. Yamaha takes the HD signal from the satellite box and somehow cleans it up and I was astounded by the picture quality. A huge improvement over my old unit. I did say huge didn't I, wow.
I added a Samsung BlueRay player with 4K upscaling capabilities since the RX-A720 has the same built into it. I read that 4K is not needed unless you have a very large TV but I can now see the eyelashes. BlueRay quality...amazing.
No need to program all of the remotes to talk to each other, they do it themselves, go figure.
I printed the owner's manual, read it a few times, then called Yamaha's customer service for help programming the setup for different input components. A bit overwhelming at first but the service rep was very helpful and got me dialed in in no time. Another big plus is if your TV has an HDMI ARC input.
I read all the reviews before purchasing and some have said the remote and owner's manual are a bit much. No worries here, not that difficult and more audio options than before. I immediately wanted to upgrade my surround speakers but there is no real need to, sound quality is great with the sound scenes to choose from. Also, plugging my Ipod Nano into the front USB input jack of the unit is a cinch and the audio is great. And the Ipod charges while plugged in. 3 wallpapers to chose from, pretty cool.
Still learning about the Zone 2 option. It is supposed to be be for speakers in a separate room. I want to use it for my outdoor patio speakers. My old unit had a button to push to send audio outdoors but this unit is different. This function is going to bug me.
IMHO overall this is a great unit. Had I known Yamaha could improve this much over my older unit I would have purchased it sooner.

Comments about Yamaha 630 Watt 7.2 Channel Audio/Video Receiver:

I bought this to replace my Pioneer VSX 1021K, which was a fairly recent purchase itself. I had many frustrating issues with the Pioneer...the Airplay was very unreliable, settings would just reset themselves, etc.
I don't know why I went with Pioneer over Yamaha on that purchase because I've always had good experiences with Yamaha.
This receiver is no exception. It has easy on-screen setup options, and the Airplay and internet radio have been flawless. Sound quality is excellent on my Klipsch home theater speakers.
              Very happy with this purchase.

Comments about Yamaha 630 Watt 7.2 Channel Audio/Video Receiver:

I am very pleased with this unit. I am still learning all the functions, but like what I see so far. I like all the different sound profiles to create a different feel to the audio. The only things I am not crazy about is #1. The remote - maybe a few less buttons to make room for larger buttons and identification. #2. I wish that a paper manual was included instead of a disk. Trying to learn about the unit while going back and forth to a computer is annoying. I much rather have a manual in my hand and practice with the unit while I read. I, as most people learn the best by doing. It makes it more difficult when you have to go back to a disk document and find the answer. Still, overall very pleased. I would buy again.

We are using presence channels to provide Zone 2 on our deck. Control with the free Yamaha iPhone/iPad app is perfect for our use. No problems or disappointments yet.

Comments about Yamaha 630 Watt 7.2 Channel Audio/Video Receiver:

I bought this receiver to upgrade from an old Sony receiver. There were three main things I was looking for in an upgrade; more power (louder), clearer sound, better customization (EQ). I researched several different manufacturers. All seemed to be able to do what I wanted and for about the same price. However, when listening to all of them at the store, this one had the most clear sound.

When I got it home, the set up was extremely easy. I went through and customized the EQ for each speaker and dialed in the sound exactly how I like it. The YPAO gave me a good start. For an average user, the YPAO would probably be enough. But I needed to tweak a little more. And it was easy to do so.

At 90W per channel (same as my old Sony), this unit puts out much more volume. And the sound is very clear at high volumes.

My only disappointment with this receiver is that I really looked forward to using the iPhone app to control the receiver when I am not in the room. Unfortunately, the app keeps losing connection with the receiver. I called Yamaha about it and their only solution was to unplug the receiver and plug it back in. This worked for about a day and then lost connection again. If Yamaha would take care of this issue, it would be a perfect world for me.

All in all, great receiver at a decent price. I would receommend to others.
