I can't believe I paid for this thing

By Eric

from Altamonte Springs, Fl

Comments about Maytag 5.3 CuFt Top Load Washer:

To say I was disappointed in this "washingredients machine" would be a gross understatement. You see I used quotation marks because it says it's a washer machine but it doesn't wash clothes. We can't use it as a high capacity like it says because we have clothes that come out 90% dry. We're not saving water because we have to wash the same load 2-3 times. Even on the settings that use the most water it is not cleaning. The problem is that it does not fill the tub with enough water and it does not agitate fast enough. I would definitely recommend this to a friend who hates his money and wants to waste it on useless items and who hates clean clothes.

Massive

By Bubullz

Comments about Maytag 5.3 CuFt Top Load Washer:

I've had Matching washer and dryer for couple months and i love them both. I was very skeptical In the beginning with how little water it uses. But I've yet to be disappointed. The 5.3 cubic ft is massive. I put 3 blankets in (old washeri had to wash 1 at a time) and was still room for alot more. If your short you might a step to get clothes out. I'm 5'5"and have to get in tip toes to get stuff from from bottom out. Glad i didnt upgrade to 8.0 The only NEGATIVE i can see is that it shakes really bad when it spins out. Very pleased with my purchase.

Looks nice but performs bad

By Greg

from Forest city, nc

Comments about Maytag 5.3 CuFt Top Load Washer:

Does not soak clothes completely due to water saving design but it's not water saving if you have to wash clothes 3 times to get clean. Over all design is nice an easy to use but not happy with it

Takes Forever to wash

By Disappointed

from Clyde, NC

Comments about Maytag 5.3 CuFt Top Load Washer:

It's been one year with the Maytag and I agree with most of the reviews. It's loud, the clothes hardly move during washing and I have taken clothes out after the machine turned off and they have still been dry (and please don't tell me it is because of the special spin cycle). I use a well out in a rural area and always change the water filter before I start a load. I live alone so I only wash about 3 to 4 loads a month. I expected this machine to last until I passed. Now I have a repair person coming out because it took over an hour to just fill with a fresh water filter.

Great washer when it works

By SKP

Comments about Maytag 5.3 CuFt Top Load Washer:

Washer is great and the best I have owned, but it broke within 5 months of owning the washer. 4 loads a week, and it can't even make it to a year!

Zero Stars. Can't really call it a washer.

By Dissatisfied

from Maryland

Comments about Maytag 5.3 CuFt Top Load Washer:

After trying numerous cycle combinations, I'm sending it back. It doesn't actually wash the clothes. Some clothes come out with dry spots, even in the soak cycle. A pair of muddy athletic pants came out with only 25% of the mud removed. These are pants that you can just rinse under a faucet and any mud comes off, so not really hard to wash. Took 3 cycles to get them sort of clean. Dirty socks came out with dirt still caked on. Towels came out smelling strongly of detergent and softener on one half and clean on the other. Broke out in a horrible rash from lack of complete rinsing, despite doing the extra rinse cycle. Having watched several full cycles - seriously - there is no "blooming action." The clothes on the bottom couple of inches get wet and sort of wiggled around a bit. Clothes on the top, may wick up a little water, and might get wiggled around a tiny bit, but that's it. In the rinse cycle, clothing above the 2 inch water line only gets the water spun from them. The fabric is never actually fully rinsed. I'm not sure this is really fully Maytag's fault, with government regulations as they are. With a top loader you actually need water to float the clothes to counteract gravity in order for them to get clean. In a front loader gravity helps you out. As much as I hate the maintenance of a front loader to keep it mold free, I'm going back to a front loader. What is most irritating is the false advertising. Watch the video on the Maytag home page. Clothing is floating freely in water. I can assure you this washer (nor any washer less than 20 years old) does not do that.

DO BUY HE TOP LOAD!

By Beachinmomma

from Wilmington DE

Comments about Maytag 5.3 CuFt Top Load Washer:

These machines will not meet your expectation of Maytag! With the first load I experienced astonishment with how loud the base agitator. Had Maytag man come out to tell me that is how it is suppose to sound. Few months later had them come out again and this time they changed the motor-helped a little but still loud. The water level is so efficient that the clothes do not get covered. After the wash the clothes are in the same order. Same shirt on top. Some times items don't even get wet. Another my son's shirt came out smelling as thought I never washed it. I have lived with it for a year, rewashing clothes, getting anoyed with every load! Called Maytag again to see if they have done any improvements, answer NOPE! They offered to send someone out to check but I would have to pay labor! $100 to tell me this is the nature of the machine! The only thing they could recommend is a Whirlpool Outlet website to buy a new machine- at my expense! Save yourself time and disappointment don't buy HE top load from anyone until you check Consumer reports!
