Spins Really Dry

By NMDavis717

from Tucson, AZ

Verified Buyer

Comments about Maytag 3.6 CuFt Centennial Top Load Washer:

Easy to use and spins clothes really dry so they don't take long when put into the dryer or out on a line. The actuator did need to be replaced three years in, but it was covered by the extended protection plan we got at time of purchase. I hope it will last a long time.

Hate

By B Star

from Colorado

Comments about Maytag 3.6 CuFt Centennial Top Load Washer:

I can't even put into words how much I hate this washing machine... The two main reasons are 1. the locking lid... Completely unnecessary and unbelievable annoying should you find a lone sock that you missed, you can't just simply throw it in after you have pressed start. 2. The cycle will repeat if you don't hurry and open the lid within about 20 seconds of hearing the cycle stop, you basically have to watch it close than a newborn baby unless you want your clothes to be washed to smithereens and then they just smell moldy after the third time going through the cycle. If this wasn't a gift, I would have out a live grenade inside it a long time ago..... I have had it for about 2 years and it finally quit working! What a blessing now I can purchase something that doesn't make me want to break down and cry every time I use it. On the upside I guess you can fit a lot of clothes in it....

Minimally OK washer

By Darklurker

from Georgia

Comments about Maytag 3.6 CuFt Centennial Top Load Washer:

We've had this washer for 2 years. It does an OK job of washing clothes. Everything still works - no agitator problems that others have written about. It seems to be an decently-built washer. I consider it to be a fairly quiet washer when it's running. It doesn't use much water at all.

The washer does have some major drawbacks though. First, as others have said, it ties the clothes in knots. This is my first HE washer without the center agitator, so maybe they all do that nowadays. Second - it doesn't have the center agitator. We realized we missed this after about 6 months. Third, as others have said, the lid locking is a major pain. I don't know why Maytag set it to be so very aggressive, but it's ANNOYING as the dickens when you realize you dropped a sock and need to put it in right after you've hit the Start button, but you have to wait for the washer to think about that for several seconds before it unlocks the lid. Fourth, the washer doesn't use much water - too little water, IMHO. I guess if you live in the desert, that's a big deal, but for the rest of us, it's just an excuse to have poorly washed clothes. And the FINAL drawback is that clothes seem to sour far too quickly in this washer if we don't get them out immediately after the spin cycle finishes. Leave them in for 2-3 hours and they definitely get that sour-laundry smell, even in winter when it's cold and dry. We tried using several of those "washing machine" cleaning packets (and they aren't cheap at all) and several runs through on the Clean cycle, but it didn't really make any difference.

We replaced this Maytag with another brand that DOES have the center agitator, DOESN'T lock the lid until the spin cycle starts, DOESN'T tie the clothes in knots, and DOES have the capability to fill the tub FULL of water. We like the new washer much, much better, and this Maytag is going on CL soon. The Maytag does the barest minimum of what I'd call "washing" clothes considering the cost.

Terrible product

Comments about Maytag 3.6 CuFt Centennial Top Load Washer:

We consider ourselves very careful with our appliances, and this product only lasted 1 1/2 years. We tried several revival techniques, but it is dead.

Good Washer

By Tuna

from Rockland, NY

Comments about Maytag 3.6 CuFt Centennial Top Load Washer:

Washer is great, but you have to follow directions on how to load the clothes so you don't block the sensor.
You have to use "He" detergent which is easily found in stores.

Do not buy this washer!!

By My Maytag Failed Me

from Mystic CT

Verified Buyer

Comments about Maytag 3.6 CuFt Centennial Top Load Washer:

Just 3.5 years after buying this washer, and six months past the purchased extended warranty, I would have to pay more than the original purchase price to repair the failed drum assembly bearings. Bearing issue aside, I was not a fan of how the drain line comes out from the bottom of the washer to only connect to a cheap plastic hose supplied by Maytag (always worried it would fail and flood my house), Also didn't like the ambiguous LED lights that indicate the cycle progression.
Bottom Line: Do Not Buy This Washer. I have been a faithful Maytag customer my entire life (4th Maytag washer I have purchased, and grew up only on Maytag). My dad sad never buy a Whirlpool, only buy Maytag. Well, Whirlpool has bought Maytag. There you go!!

Maytag disappoints

By Disappointed Kate

from Indianapolis IN

Verified Buyer

Comments about Maytag 3.6 CuFt Centennial Top Load Washer:

I had always purchased Whirlpool appliance but bought a Maytag washer and dryer. Both were purchase on 19 August 2013. In February 2016 the washer would not spin properly and the washer was leaking oil. That should not happen in 30 months. The dryer still works fine but I replaced the washer with a LG model as it would cost almost as much to repair the washer as we paid for it.
