DO NOT USE IN DISHWASHER

By Josh95d

from San Francisco, CA

Comments about KitchenAid 14 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler:

love the mixer but this is the third whip I have had to buy. My roommate placed it in the dishwasher and it leaves a black residue when ever the part that attached to the machine is touched. When will they come out with a dishwasher safe version??

Corroded: Leaves Black Smears

By L. Martin

from Atlanta, GA

Comments about KitchenAid 14 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler:

Like other reviewer's, my Tilt-Head 6-Wire Whip corroded and the metal piece that attaches to the mixer is covered with a fine, black dust/film that comes off on my hands and sponges. It washes right off, but comes back again because the coating that protects the finish is gone. I cannot remember putting it in the dishwasher, but the customer service rep let me know that this can happen if you let it sit in water too long. The only remedy seems to be hand washing it immediately after use, but now I'm afraid to even use dish soap on the new one I had to buy. I wish Kitchenaid would correct this problem and use different materials, but it appears that this is one thing they just don't care to fix. COME ON, KITCHENAID! FIX THIS!

broken wire whip

By Mishie

from Berlin, CT

Comments about KitchenAid 14 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler:

I can't believe I have to change a wire whip. The reason I bought this brand because I thought it is durable, a good investment since I love to cook and bake. I am very disappointed when I notice mu wire whip broke.

Corrodes in the dishwasher

By James

from Alexandria, VA

Comments about KitchenAid 14 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler:

Corrodes in the dishwasher and leaves dark gray smears on your hands, dishtowels, and in your food. Find a stainless steel version if you can, and let me know what it is.

Do NOT Buy this Wine Fridge from KitchenAid

By DavidL

from San Mateo

Comments about KitchenAid 14 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler:

KitchenAid Makes this claim right on the product description page and it is 100% false.

"46 Wine Bottle Capacity
Provides large capacity to easily chill and display a full selection of wines."

It may hold 46 bottles but all have to be mini-skinny bottles and NOT the "full selection" because if you want champaign or pinot noir any bottle slightly different size, you have to remove racks. Not adjust racks, REMOVE RACKS.

See previous reviewer who states the same (I've cut and pasted relevant portion below) which basically states that bottles over a certain circumference do NOT fit. What KitchenAid is advertising is false.

"2) The drawer immediately below the display panel does not provide sufficient space for average size wine bottles. Wine bottles with circumference 25.5 cm and larger may fit in this drawer by deflecting the display panel which is directly above. Placing 4 or 5 average bottles in this drawer results in a press fit situation that tears the bottle label and drags all bottles to the back of the drawer when it is opened."

So while the cooler offers an option in set the temperature on the control panel specifically for Champagne, if you want Champagne, you can't adjust the racks to fit, you have to remove an entire rack. Thus NOT a 46 bottle storage devise.

Don't buy KitchenAid. They lie in description. They do NOT provide a good customer service experience once it's too late and you have purchased product. Correct customer service is to replace product with one that performs as advertised. Or better yet, retrofit the product so that the racks can be adjusted. But I guess they prefer to lie to you and sell you on max bottles than sell you a product that takes care of you and your wine.

How is my mom's pea-green mixer circa 1958 better than mine?

By BummedBaker

from Boston

Comments about KitchenAid 14 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler:

The KitchenAid stand mixer is the industry standard. It's often one of the first things added to wedding and shower registries; it was one of the first things I registered for. I was so excited when I opened mine! But when I started to use it-- and wash it-- specifically the wire whip attachment-- the same thing happened to mine that happened to everyone else's-- black gunk that gets everywhere appeared. No matter how many times I washed it off, it just came back. I tried different solvents, all to no avail. Finally, I returned my first mixer because I thought it was just a fluke, a random manufacturer defect....but then the exact same thing happened with my next one.
I can't believe KitchenAid would risk their reputation and market edge for the sake of something so small. Using aluminum for the attachment casting devalues the entire product and makes me wonder what other corners they have cut in recent years. How much money can they be saving by using this inferior material?!?
My mom's mixer and all its original parts are still going strong after 50+ years and who knows how many cakes; how come I am having serious problems almost immediately?-- health and safety risks, not to mention that the black stuff ruins whatever you're trying to make!
If the whole wire whip attachment were made of all stainless steel-- as it used to be-- it would entirely fix the problem and restore my KitchenAid's place in my kitchen as one of my essential go-to appliances. As it stands, however, it's just collecting dust in the corner.

Wire Whisk Hits SIdes of Bowl and Eventually Breaks

By eyelean

from MA

Comments about KitchenAid 14 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler:

I won a gray stand mixer Model KSM5. I have had problems with the whisk from the start. I have avoided using the whisk because of the problems. I know it is inserted correctly. It always hits the sides for the bowl making a tapping sound and scraping it. One of the prongs snapped off during my second batch of whip cream. I am very frustrated with this. I will be looking for another maker's mixer. It is too expensive to keep replacing the whisk!!!

Wine, Beer, and Bottled Water Always Ready

By sm46

Comments about KitchenAid 14 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler:

In use with family of four for one month following major kitchen remodel. Aesthetically very pleasing. Love the auto light function when entering the room. Temperature is very consistent. Would like to see an adjustable beverage rack as taller bottles will not fit without removing the upper shelf.

Wire Whip made of aluminum and stainless steel will corrode

By GeothermalSusan

from Seattle, WA

Comments about KitchenAid 14 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler:

The wire whip that came with my beautiful new tilt head grape colored mixer is made of an aluminum body with stainless steel wires. Haven't your engineers every heard of galvanic corrosion? The aluminum will oxidize if you put this in contact with any conductive solution: Lemon juice, dishwasher soap, dish washing detergent, vinegar. Bad engineering! The oxidation forms an icky black powder that covers everything and gets in the food in the mixer if it gets wet. Eventually the wires will come out of the body as the corrosion continues. I tried coating mine with clear nail polish, but then it wouldn't fit on the head anymore. Make it all stainless.
