frustrating

By chewy butterfly

from Salt Lake City

Comments about KitchenAid 30" Electric Cooktop:

Got this appliance in a remodel

The "great" detection of pan size function that KitchenAid boasts of is one of my biggest complaints.

Want to make a package of Ramen noodles, heat up a single serving of oatmeal? Boil a cup of water? Forget it.

The burner is too big to allow a small pan. I have to use a pan that is big enough for the burner size circle to boil a couple cups of water, which makes the water lever 1/4 inch in the pot. Most of my water is evaporated by the time it boils. The Ramen noodles block is more than half way above the water line by the time I have cooked it for a minute.

It is such an obvious design flaw, that I am astounded it passed inspection by any seasoned cook who might have tested this cooktop.

The large burner has a smaller circle inside of it for smaller pans to be allowed on it, why not something like this for the small burner?

Also, if you're boiling potatoes and the water bubbles out even a little bit, as in water drops that occasionally splatter out, the stove just SHUTS OFF. I can't tell you how often I have to carefully wipe away ALL the water, and restart my cooktop while in the middle of making soup or potatoes or steaming vegetables.

Occasionally, the cooktop will beep and turn off in the middle of cooking something without any apparent reason.

I would like to use this cooktop as a landing spot for cookie sheets just out of the oven, but more often than not, the cooktop will buzz loudly and then make a prolonged "BEEEEP!" every 5 seconds for about 20 minutes, and NOTHING will stop it- I just have to wait it out with that grating beeping going off loudly.

This beeping will occasionally happen even when a cold glass or metal bowl or pan touches the cooktop.

That said, the cooktop heats up quickly, looks good, and is a dream to keep clean.

I would do a lot more shopping and research in the future if I had to purchase another induction cooktop. Just because something is made by a brand like KitchenAid, doesn't mean it's going to be good quality.

I would make a different choice in brands if I could do it again.

Still learning

By Still figuring it out

from Nashville, TN

Comments about KitchenAid 30" Electric Cooktop:

I'm still learning how to cook by induction. One problem I have had is seeing exactly where the heating area is when the pan is on the "burner." The "burner" won't let me use a pan small enough to see the outline of the heating area. Any suggestions?

Love it.

Comments about KitchenAid 30" Electric Cooktop:

What can I say...I love it. Having cooked with gas for the last twenty years, I moved to a place without a gas option. The induction cooktop gives me greater control over my cooking than the gas did. I am so pleased I went with induction. I am also pleased, as I have been for years, with KitchenAid.

nice stovetop

By John

from Egg Harbor, WI

Verified Buyer

Comments about KitchenAid 30" Electric Cooktop:

We had this about a month now. It works good but I think raising or lowering the temp is awkward. You don't know what you are doing until the temp shows up and if you want to move only one notch, it is a hit and miss action. Also at times we will get a buzzing noise, not sure what that is. Otherwise it is nice and we are happy with it.

Chip on front of 1yr old cooktop

By New kitchen

from TN

Comments about KitchenAid 30" Electric Cooktop:

I have this stove. It cooks evenly. Like another reviewer stated, my stove developed a chip in the front left corner. I have no Idea why OR HOW. I am the only person who cooks on the stove. I bought all kitchenaid full size appliances & countertop appliances (except the refrigerator). I am so very baffled & disappointed. My next cooktop will be a gas one, probably no longer with this brand.
