Comments about KitchenAid 30'' Electric Cooktop:

Unit works just fine. It is quite a challenge, though, to keep it free from smudge marks and fingerprints.

Very hard to clean

By None

Comments about KitchenAid 30'' Electric Cooktop:

The cook top is impossible to clean and to keep clean. I purchased the recommended cleaning products, but it makes a big greasy, streaky mess. Even water leaves hard to remove marks. It is also a dust magnet when not in use. This cooktop is a replacement for a GE model, which was a dream to clean. I hate to spend 20 minutes every night rubbing the streaks out. I would not recommend this product!!

Very Disappointed

Comments about KitchenAid 30'' Electric Cooktop:

I bought this product in December 2015 replacing a Jennair coil burner downdraft. I thought the glass top would be much easier to clean. The first few weeks it cleaned up great using recommended cleaning supplies. After the 30 day warranty was gone when I try to clean it I have a cloudy film on and around several burners that will not come off. I have tried every tip and product I have seen written and still does not remove the cloudy look. This is a black cooktop so it is very visible and frustrating to say the least. I chose Kitchen aid over Jennair at the recommendation of a sales person and now not sure I am glad I followed his advice. I have not used an abrasive cleaners or scouring pads on this cooktop. If you have any recommendations I would be more than glad to hear them.

Top Notch Cooktop

By Lake House Remodel

from Apple River, IL

Comments about KitchenAid 30'' Electric Cooktop:

Just installed 30 days ago and has been great in use. High quality finish and feel all around. The "dual range" heating is a nice addition allowing for more flexibility to pot/pan size. Heats up very quickly and infinitely adjustable. Cool down takes a little time but makes it safer for cleaning.

Avoid Glasstop Cooktops

By An Engineer

from New York

Comments about KitchenAid 30'' Electric Cooktop:

I bought this cooktop to replace an old Jenn Air cooktop that had traditional coil type burners.

The black glass looks beautiful at first. But you will quickly find that it shows every single spec of dust, every spill, every drop of oil or grease. Cleaning it is a time consuming effort. It's extremely difficult to get oil and grease off. It always leaves ugly streaks that are nearly impossible to get rid of, no matter what type of cleaner you use.

As far as cooking goes, it doesn't work as well as the old coil type burners. My Jenn Air had 2100 Watt burners that could bring 6 quarts of water to a boil in 12 minutes, using a Farberware pot. The Kitchenaid has a 3000 Watt burner that takes 28 minutes to boil exactly the same amount of water using the same pot. Turns out the pot isn't perfectly flat on the bottom (few are). So I bought new pots. The new pots help, and now it takes 18 minutes - 50% longer than the old cooktop.

The reason is that the burners are about 1/2 inch below the glass. Glass sucks as a conductor of heat. So imagine trying to boil a pot of water when the stove is on the other side of a window. That's just what you've got here and it doesn't work very well. No wonder it takes 50% more power and 50% more time to get the job done.

If I could buy a coil type cooktop to replace this one, I would. I'd haul the glasstop off to the junk yard as fast as I could. Unfortunately, they don't make coil type, downdraft cooktops any more.

The way the controls for the dual element burners work leaves a lot to be desired.

With the single element burners, if you turn the knob clockwise to the 7 o'clock position, it will be on High. With a dual element burner, this same position gives you Low.

Plus, the markings on the controls are nearly impossible to see or read. Very light, white print that's almost invisible.

Together, this makes it really easy to turn on the wrong burner, or set it to the wrong heat level.

Glasstops look great, but don't work well. Might as well try cooking over a match.

30 inch 4 element downdraft cooktop

By John

from Poway, Ca.

Comments about KitchenAid 30'' Electric Cooktop:

We had a competitor's downdraft cooktop but the burners started to give up and the dials were not functioning properly. So, we replaced it with a Kitchen Aid cooktop. So far everything is working fine although we have to get used to the dial indications which are difficult to read.

Excellent Replacement

By Kristine

from Granger, IN

Comments about KitchenAid 30'' Electric Cooktop:

Bought this to replace my Jenn-Air cooktop with downdraft. Like the sleek look, burners heat up quickly and the downdraft is so much quieter than the original. The vent was not in the same location as the original, but only required some venting changes. Really looks good in the remodel.

Surface marrs easily

By stormsdad

from st louis, MO

Verified Buyer

Comments about KitchenAid 30'' Electric Cooktop:

This unit has a lot of pluses. It heats very fast. The three settings on the downdraft provide an excellent range of smoke/moisture removal and it is fairly quiet. And it looks good when brand new. But the glass surface is very hard to keep clean looking. I'm afraid at some point soon it will adopt permanent marks/scratches just from normal use. We already have some marks that I don't think we can remove unless someone has a suggestion. For the bottom line rating, I will rate this product as not recommended for now only because I think people should look at other electric cooktop options that would be easier to keep mark free. I know it's just an appliance but ours is in the middle of our kitchen and one of the first things you see when entering. Operationally, it works great and I will rate Kitchenaid high as a brand.
