Comments about KitchenAid 26.6 CuFt French Door Refrigerator:

This is our second kitchenaid refrigerator and we have loved them both. We like the energy efficient , and the movable shelves so you can customize it to your own needs. As one who cooks from scratch everything. I appreciate a great workable appliance.

Caution??

Comments about KitchenAid 26.6 CuFt French Door Refrigerator:

This refrigerator is now 3yrs old and already had to take care of 2 problems. Plus I find the warranty is not that great on most parts that are going to go on it first? (Relay switch)....First repair for the drainage problem to replace the drainage hose. KitchenAid did mail the part no charge but I had to install this myself.. Then recently a clicking sound and had a service technician $100. later to inform my fridge is ok? Apparently you must clean your bottom coils and the back of the fridge remove the panel and vacuum all the dust. Or else your compressor will over heat causing your relay switch to break.... He recommended do this once a year..Plus you should invest in a Coil brush through an appliance store or places like Home Depot (ProClean Appliance Brush)

generally pretty good

Comments about KitchenAid 26.6 CuFt French Door Refrigerator:

I can't give it 5 stars because it's had some issues, freezer drain clogging and causing a leak (it had a design flaw that according to the repair guy KA pays for the redesigned part but not the fee to replace it. it also randomly shoots ice cubes out of the dispenser onto our floor. Even the repair guy said he's never seen anything like it. Said it's probably because a cube get caught then melts and falls out but it happens so frequently that I still view it as a design flaw of some sort. Our dogs love it though.
On the pros it fits an amazing amount of food and is very versatile. The bottom freezer looks small but you can fit a ton in it. Looks and styling are very nice and other than the ice cube issue the dispenser has a ton of options with the digital screen works well.

Great Fridge Apart From One Design Flaw

By Kevin S

from Vancouver, BC, Canada

Comments about KitchenAid 26.6 CuFt French Door Refrigerator:

Purchased this model three years ago and was very happy with performance until recently, when started having the same issues described by other reviewers - namely slab of ice forming continuously on the freezer bottom until it stopped the freezer drawer from closing properly and meltwater started leaking out onto our kitchen floor. From research online, it seemed this was a common problem with this model series and was due to a poorly designed drain outlet at the rear of the fridge that becomes clogged over time.

Phoned the KitchenAid/Whirlpool support line and they were quite helpful. At no charge, they mailed me a replacement part (a P-Trap Drain Tube Kit) for the problem drain outlet. The support line guy told me that if the problem had occurred in the first two years after purchase, then KitchenAid would also have paid the labour costs for someone to come and install it on the fridge. So I ended up doing the part replacement myself with the help of an easy-to-find YouTube DIY video. Not really that difficult and I wouldn't really call myself a handyman. Three months later and no further incidents of ice forming on the freezer bottom.

Many, many problems...

By Very disappointed Barbara

from Wilmington, NC

Comments about KitchenAid 26.6 CuFt French Door Refrigerator:

I have owned this refrigerator for 4 years and it is a good thing I purchased the extended warranty. The motherboard has been replaced at least 3 times. Ice shoots out onto the floors pretty regularly. I can never tell when the filter truly needs replacing, because it alerts me almost daily that it needs to be done. The first time, I thought maybe it was a faulty filter, but it has done it the entire time we have owned it. The left door never closes properly without pushing it hard. And the ice jams up constantly. In May 2016 I had a service call about the water filter problem and they ordered a new compartment for the front, in hopes of finally fixing the problem. The part is still back ordered and we are at the end of July. Someone from Whirpool extended warranty called last week and said they were going to be in touch within a week and planned on offering me a replacement refrigerator. Instead, they called another repair service to come and now I am sure I am facing another delay. When we built our home, Kitchenaid appliances came highly recommended. The microwave has been replaced three times and the dishwasher digital display panel has been replaced twice. I no longer have any faith in their products and I am not happy with the extended warranty company either.

Takes time to get used to features.

Comments about KitchenAid 26.6 CuFt French Door Refrigerator:

Bought this appliance about 2 months ago. It is similar but different to the one it is replacing. We like the Freezer in the bottom drawer. The French doors and shelves set up, allows one to open only part of the fridge rather than the opening up the whole unit. The Down side is the Deli Centre drawer goes across the bottom of the whole fridge and one has to open both doors to access it. Why couldn't it be split like the rest ot the shelves? We like the Convernsion program but it does not convert Canadian Imp. liquids to Metric. Only converts American liquids. The rest of the conversions are good. The ice making unit is a bit noisier than our older unit but we are getting used to it. Over all it is a nice addition to our kitchen.

Water drains into freezer then onto floor

By Jason

from Calgary, AB, Canada

Comments about KitchenAid 26.6 CuFt French Door Refrigerator:

A known design flaw in the drain gasket has caused us major hardwood floor damage. Very frustrated with the quality control from KitchenAid. I now have a new redesigned drain I have to install myself which is daunting due to our kitchen shape and where the fridge is. This is our second flawed KitchenAid appliance- our dishwasher had nylon upper rack brackets and wheels that would wear down due to heat and washing. I have replaced them twice with the same plastic parts and then found they came out with a metal design repalcement that fixed the issue. I am now scared to ever purchase any new KitchenAid appliance- I paid a premium price for a subpar designed product that should never have failed like this in the first place.

Love my new KitchenAid fridge! This is my first bottom freezer and I am thrilled with not have to bend over to see what is on the bottom shelf. I love the longer meat keeper. It suits our needs much better, wished I had purchased this years ago
