Comments about KitchenAid 36" Gas Cooktop:

I really like the look of this cooktop, but it is also a very efficient appliance with even heating and I especially like the center burner.

Love it!!

Comments about KitchenAid 36" Gas Cooktop:

This is the second KitchenAid cooktop that I have had in the past 20 years. The first one we purchased in 1996-97 when we did a complete overhaul of our kitchen. Since we are thinking of moving in the next year or so we thought that we needed to update our appliances even though everything was working perfectly. Potential buyers will not appreciate 20 year old appliances no matter how well they are working. So now I am enjoying all of my new KitchenAid appliances until I sell my house.

Excellent features

Comments about KitchenAid 36" Gas Cooktop:

We specifically added gas to our kitchen to get rid of the electric cook-top. We looked at every gas cook top available and this one had the most features and value. The pot spacing is perfect, the controls are simple and I know what knob turns what on without searching. Cooking is such a joy again.

Sorry, I hate it

By Jim Fisher

from Florence, Alabama

Comments about KitchenAid 36" Gas Cooktop:

I purchased this in December, 2015 for a newly constructed house. I've been fighting this thing ever since. I cooked on a smooth ceramic top for years and always wanted gas for the "performance." I miss ceramic!

My biggest gripe: IT TAKES FOREVER TO BOIL WATER! Boiling two cups of water on the standard left-front, right-front burners takes at least 20 minutes and longer than that to get a vigorous boil. I called Kitchenaid and they sent a technician out. He also said that was too long and would report that to Kitchenaid to see what they would do. Well, Kitchenaid told him that was normal. 20 minutes to boil 2 cups of water is normal? Seriously?

To get a good boil, you have to start with the huge, wasteful central burner, then move the pot to one of the other burners to simmer.

Even boiling a quarter inch of water in a large pan for asparagus or broccoli takes at least 10 minutes to get going. When you put the asparagus in, it takes entirely too long to get boiling again so I had to learn how to cook these vegetables again.

Cleaning it is a pain in the rear.

I cook lots of rice. To cook it decently takes entirely too much skill. First, you have to get the water boiling on the central huge burner. If that burner is occupied, too bad. Then you have to move it to the right-rear unit for proper simmering. If you use one fo the front burners, "low" is too high. This is only a big deal if you are cooking lots of stuff with all the burners occupied. When that happens, I find myself swapping pots between burners to get the right "low" temp.

Lastly, (and I admit this is my fault) you have to get the right cookware. I had some pretty nice Wolfgang Puck stainless stuff. They have a tubular handle. Well, that kind of handle makes a "chimney" when cooking with gas which instantly heats the handles to red hot. It took a while to get used to this and not burn the heck out of my hand when handling pots. I finally purchased some better pots.
