Refrigerators have come a long way with double freezer drawers, extra tall water dispensers and even models that dispense hot water as well as cold water, and seltzer water. Some refrigerators have smart features that include a touch screen, WiFi, smart apps (like Google Calendar, Picasa and Pandora), text notification capabilities, and energy monitoring.
A few common questions when purchasing a new refrigerator include:
- How big of a refrigerator should you buy? A common rule is that you should have 5 cubic feet per family member, with a little more if there are more adults in the house. So generally a typical family of four would be looking at refrigerators 20 CuFt or bigger. Larger refrigerators can consume more energy so look for the newer units with energy saving features like LED lighting, separate doors for frequently used items, and the split door on the French Door units.
- What is cabinet depth? Cabinet depth refrigerators are units designed to have the same depth as standard 24” depth kitchen base cabinets. They are designed this way to give an inline custom look to your kitchen. They are not as deep as a standard refrigerator, so they are generally wider so you are not sacrificing refrigerator space to have a cabinet depth refrigerator.
