Comments about I Robot Scooba 390 Floor Washing Robot:

We love our Roomba and decided to get a Scooba. It was my Christmas present. I've used it 3 times and really like it. We have a large kitchen/keeping room/breakfast room/office/pantry with tile floors - a really large area to Swiffer or mop. This has done a great job on this area as well as the bathroom. Now, it's more of a floor washer than a floor scrubber. You may have to get a few of the stubborn spots up yourself but it's a lot easier than my real floor scrubber and it's a lot easier to clean. Just pour in the cleaner or water or vinegar solution (yes, you can use that) and start it. When finished, empty the tank and clean the tube, filter and brush/squeegee assembly. Very quick and easy. It doesn't dry our floor real well (that's the season for the 4 stars instead of 5) but what water is left drys quickly and it doesn't leave streaks. I highly recommend this, along with the Roomba.

Comments about I Robot Scooba 390 Floor Washing Robot:

The Scooba needs more than 3 hours of charging in order to function for slightly more than 1 hour. It is also unable to climb up slopes that my Roomba crosses with ease. It requires a lot of human intervention. I have to constantly monitor it to make sure that it does not stop working. I do NOT recommend anyone to buy a Scooba unless all weaknesses are rectified.

Comments about I Robot Scooba 390 Floor Washing Robot:

I have had various robots over the years with varying degrees of issues. The newer models are definitely an improvement. I didn't use any robots for a several years, after which I tried to use only a Scooba in my four-Standard Poodle, three-cat home close to the beach. I learned quickly that the Scooba will not pick up sand. I could run my hand over my damp floor and feel the grit. I added the Braava and found that it, too, would not get the sand. However, I really like it for a quick damp mop and use it almost daily. Next I added the Roomba and it is very effective on the sand. It is programmed to sweep all rooms except my bedroom every night. I now use my "team" and my floors are always extremely clean with very little effort on my part. The Scooba does get stuck easily but I just quickly move a few things around, leave the house and return to a clean floor. Sometimes I use the Braava with a dry cloth at the same time as the Scooba. Braava gives the floors a bit more of a workout and picks up the extra water that the Scooba leaves. I have porcelain tile (hand-scraped wood look) throughout so with the indentations in the floor, water pick-up is not great. Personally, I would not use Scooba on wood or laminate floors due to the amount of water left behind, but I would use Braave on either of them. I gave the Scooba only four stars because to keep my floors in perfect shape requires three different robots. But believe me, I love it!

Comments about I Robot Scooba 390 Floor Washing Robot:

A year ago I purchased a Roomba 770. My expectations were not high for a robot's performance. The Roomba really proved itself to me. So I finally broke down and purchased the Scooba 390. As with the Roomba, my expectations were not high. But I figured anything would help. I am pleasantly surprised at the job the Scooba did on my tile floors. It allows me to multi task.

Comments about I Robot Scooba 390 Floor Washing Robot:

When this product works, it is AWESOME. Cleans floors super shiny.

BUT...to set it up I have to barricade it in my open kitchen - it often ignores the virtual walls and gets stuck under my couch.
It also gets stuck on my air vents so I have to barrier these off too.
Barricading the room is a pain. And if I miss something, it gets stuck. After a 10 minute set up I leave the house, only to come home to still dirty floors and a Scooba beeping it is stuck.
I have a layout where the kitchen is open and has an island in the middle. This confuses the Scooba and often only one side of the island gets cleaned.
I have had numerous issues with the unit - 3 have been sent me (minus battery). I just started to use it again and now it is beeping me AGAIN that the dirty water is full (it is not). This issue has happened 4 times now - won't run because it says it is 'full'.
Customer Service has been really nice. The last time I called they said it must be an environmental issue. I have 2 toddlers, and a 'normal' sized kitchen, I would think I am the target user.

If it worked 90% time, there isn't a better product out there. But it works 30% of the time.

It is LOUD. I can't watch TV or even talk on the phone when it is running. It runs for 45 minutes. We try to run it at night as we go to bed but it started waking up my toddler. We ran it in the early morning once and woke up our guests.

Doesn't work as well as Roomba

Comments about I Robot Scooba 390 Floor Washing Robot:

After owning a Roomba and quite happy about it, wanted something to clean the hardwood and tile floors.

This product does ok if the room is enclosed as it often goes past the virtual wall, and if it isn't in the kitchen, where it can get hung up going under the cabinets and diswasher.

Doesn't seem to have a reverse which I think would help out a lot in getting hung up. Instead it just tries to rotate and move forward which often compounds the hangup.

I have to watch it carefully for when it does get hung up otherwise it just sits there running and doesn't stop.

Comments about I Robot Scooba 390 Floor Washing Robot:

This is my 8th or 9th scooba, my second 390. Had to send 2-4 of the earlier ones back for exchanges. Had to send first 390 back after 4-5 months. I keep trying the new scoobas because I love the concept of a robot doing the druge work. And there is no question that the 390 is a HUGE improvement over earlier models: hour long run time; much easier to clean and maintain. Moreover the company is great to deal with. But for my household, which is admittedly tough with 6 dogs, it only does a mediocre job. I have the house cleaned professionally every two weeks and then use scooba 2-4 times a week mainly on the living room (ceramic tile). The result is a tolerably clean floor. It is important to clean the machine after every use and pay special attention to the brush as that can easily clog. I am not sorry that I bought the 390 but with its hefty price its a decision that should be made knowing the machine's limitations. For more difficult households this is not a substitute for a professional cleaning. I would recommend to a friend WITH careful caveats as to what to expect/not-expect.
