Great Cooktop

By Beach Bum2

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

The touch controls are useful, and very flexible with handy controls like keep warm and melt. You can control burner size or it will pick for you and has been right so far. Haven't tried the burner sync yet, but looking forward to that as well.

Less Than I Expected

By Old Enough

from Arlington, VA, United States

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

Our prior GE downdraft cooktop had solid burners that were surrounded by stainless steel. The controls were located at the front of the cooktop where they were easy to access, but also on an angle from the main cooktop surface. While I am still getting used to how to set the temperature controls on the new cooktop, I am not finding it easy to get the right temperature on a reasonably consistent basis. I had expected that the new radiant heating system and all the other technologies that are available to provide more consistency in maintaining a temperature. As I said, I am still getting used to the controls, but so far I am quite disappointed. The other major difference involves maintaining the cooktop. The old stainless cooktop seemed able to take a fair amount of normal everyday use and could be wiped down at the end of the day with a damp dishcloth or sponge. As described in the GE literature, the new cooktops are extremely susceptible to damage from abrasion. In particular, the GE literature suggests that wiping salt from the cooktop in the wrong way will lead to permanent scratches in the cooktop surface. Special cleaning products are needed to maintain the cooktop's surface in a clean condition. Also, aluminum and copper pots can leave a residue on the cooktop surface. In all, the new cooktop seems much more finicky and fragile.

Features and Operation

By leroyp

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

I purchased this cooktop in January of this year and I am very unhappy with the quality and the performance. I am not able to get sufficient heat from three burners...the top left burner and the two right burners, which include the large burner on the right at the bottom. As a rule, on my old cooktop, I generally use medium to cook my meals and make a pot of tea. I do not use Hi to cook, because it will burn the food. However when the knob on this burner is placed on Hi for the 3 burners mentioned above, the heat output is very low. The bottom left burner burner works adequately. Another poor quality of the unit is that the position for medium is different on each burner, which makes it difficult to use. Also, the numbers arround the knob which is used to indicate how hot the burner is is vey difficult to read. This cooktop is totally unacceptable, and should be replaced.

Great look!

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

Always been a GE fan based on appearance, durability, and endurance. I bought this cooktop replacing a whirlpool range. It has a clean glass finish that is easy to maintain and its features are easy to operate.

Easy to install and looks great.

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

I purchased this cooktop to replace anot 8 year old similar ceramic style cooktop that failed. Because I didn't want to have to cut/modify the granite counter tops, I had to find a cooktop that would fit. There were only a few choices and I picked this one (sight unseen...by pictures online only)because of the fit guarantee. I was very pleased with how it looks and the fit and ease of installation. I used it for the first time and the digital controls were easy to master, the power boil function does work. I like the built in timer and lock feature. I hope that it will not have issues like the previous cooktop and that it will last longer too. But time will tell. My initial experience has been positive.

Great performing cook top and looks great. My only

By Patrick1

from Villa Hills, KY, United States

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

Really good looking unit and performs well. There is one real problem with this unit and that is you can not see the settings on the dials as the glass is black it is not back lit. Everyone I've shown the cook top to raves about how nice it looks but no one can read the dials. I need to keep the owner's manual beside the unit so that I can refer tp the illustrations to approximate where to set the dials. I never imagined this could happen or that it be sold as is. In my opinion this is a real problem.

Grown up Christmas

By Kimmi_D

from West Frankfort, IL, United States

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

I purchased this cooktop along with four other GE appliances for our kitchen remodel. This is the first glass top I've ever used, and after reading some comments online, I was a little hesitant and concerned that I had already purchased it. I've been using the cooktop daily for about a month, and I have experienced zero problems. I did think I had scratched it but was pleased to find it was just a mark that wiped off easily with the a little bit of the cleanser that came along with the product. The burners heat up very quickly. I love the variety of features which allow using the small or large burners within each spot as well as the dual burner set that can be used for griddles. Having five separate cooking areas will prove beneficial when cooking for larger family meals. I was disappointed to read online (after purchase) that I should not use an iron skillet. I found other comments, however, that explained it was important to use caution as to avoid scratching, as well as use a lower heat setting. I followed these suggestions and have used the iron skillet without any problems. Happy with the purchase!

Boils water like no other- - holds its temp. well

By eyeonthe money

from Auburn, WA, United States

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

The unit is just great. The heat temps are from 1-boil on each of the four elements The numbers are difficult to see so I had to memorize this feature. Do you have an upgrade for this? Again other than that this is great for the kind of cooking I do.

Serves its purpose

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

Been using this cooktop for 4 months. It heats up quickly at the various temperature settings and has worked well thus far. It gets dirty very easily so you almost have to clean it after every use. Not sure if it's worth the price
