Bought during Kitchen upgrade. Easy install and functions are great. Like the griddle concept (two eyes working together).

Cool Stovetop

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

Replaced a 22 Year old GE profile with this new model. Dropped right in, wired exactly the same. 5 times easier than assembling a grill. The wife loves it!

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

I would rather have the knobs on the side than the front. Having the large burner in the back is awkward for stirring and adding ingredients. I am very careful with the pans but they still leave marks on the surface sometimes.

Love the downdraft, but have other issues

By Sunny NM

from Rio Rancho, NM

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

Have used this about 3 months. I really like having a vent that goes outside. The type I had before, under the microwave which was above the stove, was useless. I do have issues, however. One would be that the glass top is very hard to keep clean. Both of my previous free standing stoves had glass tops that were sort of speckled. They were much easier to keep clean. I agree with others - the knob area is also hard to clean. Basically the knobs have to be removed. While the elements heat very fast, I concur with another reviewer - the very lowest setting on all the burners is still too hot for a slow simmer. The melt setting is OK, but I would prefer a WARM setting so I could set my plates on the burner to warm up. Don't like putting food on cold plates.

Good for vent

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

Would have preferred to have 2 large stove sizes diagonal across from each other. This one only has 1 large stove The griddle area is a nice touch although I don't use that function myself. I really liked my old GE cooktop compared to this one, it was easier to clean and had black/white pattern which made spots and streaks less noticeable as well. The only reason I purchased this one was for the vent function which my husband wanted.

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

Had this cook top one week and it already has a fine scratch on it. Used the cookware recommended. So I'm very unhappy.

Improvements have made this cooktop even better!

By B Martin

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

This cooktop is better than the similar previous model I had. The glass is easier to clean and the burners cool so much faster. I love the "quick boil" feature on one of the burners.

Great for cooking HORRIBLE for cleaning

By Rafiki

from Walnut Shade, MO, United States

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

This was a replacement from our home warranty for a different brand of cooktop. It actually cooks better and I love all of the choices on the burners, HOWEVER, I would never buy it again [nor another brand configured like it] because the way the knobs stick up make it a royal pain to clean.

Pros and cons.......

By sldpa

Comments about GE 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop:

We recently purchased this cooktop to replace our GE Profile glass cooktop that we had for 16 years. First the pros, the burners on the new cooktop heat much quicker than our old cooktop. Also, it’s much easier to clean, especially with the lock feature that turns off all the burners and controls for cleaning. I’ve also enjoyed the cooktop timer which I didn’t think I’d really use at first. Unfortunately, the cons outweigh the pros. At first I was excited that the new 30 design provides 5 burners. I’ve found, however, that it’s difficult to cook even with 3 pans when using a larger pan on the largest, middle burner. The attached photo shows how crowded the cook top gets (the flat bottom of the large, middle sauté pan is 9 and sits on the 9 burner, the bottom of the front right pan is 7 sitting on an 8 burner, and the back, left sauce pan is 6 sitting on the 7 burner). Also, while I initially enjoyed the touch controls, I am finding they’re not responsive when my fingers are damp or have oil on them. This has been a real inconvenience especially when I’m chopping and cooking, have to turn a burner down quickly, and there’s no response because there’s a little water on my fingers. Finally, I’ve only had the cooktop for two months and there’s already two chips on the side (see photo). My old cooktop edges were more rounded and it sat closer to the counter; I never had a problem with chipping. This new one has squared, beveled edges and doesn’t fit as close to the counter. My kitchen is filled with GE Profile appliances, but unfortunately I can't recommend this one.
